Last Date for Submission of Applications:

Candidates can submit their online applications until January 9, 2024, by 6:00 PM. Moreover, eligible candidates will receive an e-Admit Card seven days before the exam, available on the UPSC website (http://upsc.gov.in). Additionally, no e-Admit Card will be sent by post, so candidates must provide a valid and active email ID during the application process for communication purposes.

How to Apply for CDS:

Candidates must apply online through the UPSC website (upsconline.nic.in). Initially, they need to register on the One Time Registration (OTR) platform on the Commission’s website. This registration is a one-time process that can be done any time of the year. Once registered, candidates can proceed to fill out the online application form for the examination.

Name of the Course and Approximate Number of Vacancies:

Indian Military Academy, Dehradun – 100 vacancies

  • 158th (DE) Course commencing in January 2025, including 13 vacancies reserved for NCC `C’ (Army Wing) holders.

Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala – 32 vacancies

  • Course commencing in January 2025 for the Executive Branch (General Service)/Hydro, including 06 vacancies for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Naval Wing) holders.

Air Force Academy, Hyderabad – 32 vacancies

  • (Pre-Flying) Training Course commencing in January 2025 (No. 217 F(P) Course), including 03 vacancies reserved for NCC `C’ Certificate (Air Wing) holders through NCC Special Entry.

Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai (Madras) – 275 vacancies

  • 121st SSC (Men) (NT) (UPSC) Course commencing in April 2025.

Officers Training Academy, Chennai (Madras) – 18 vacancies

  • 35th SSC Women (NT) (UPSC) Course commencing in April 2025.

Conditions of Eligibility for CDS:

Nationality: Candidates must be unmarried and either:

  1. A Citizen of India, or
  2. A subject of Nepal, or
  3. A person of Indian origin who has migrated from specific countries with the intention of permanently settling in India (with a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, except for Gorkha subjects of Nepal).

Age Limits, Sex, and Marital Status:

For IMA and Indian Naval Academy: Unmarried male candidates born between January 2, 2001, and January 1, 2006.

For Air Force Academy: Candidates aged 20 to 24 years as of January 1, 2025 (born between January 2, 2001, and January 1, 2005). The upper age limit is relaxable to 26 years for candidates with a valid Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) (born between January 2, 1999, and January 1, 2005).

Furthermore, male divorcees or widowers are not eligible for these courses as they are not considered unmarried.

Penalty for Wrong Answers:

There will be a penalty of one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to a question for every incorrect answer in the objective-type papers.

If, however, a candidate selects more than one answer, it will be treated as incorrect, and the same penalty will apply.

Finally, no penalty will be applied for questions left unanswered.

Educational Qualifications FOR CDS exam preparation

For the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and Officers’ Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, candidates must have a degree from a recognized University or its equivalent. Conversely, the Indian Naval Academy (INA) requires a degree in Engineering from a recognized University or Institution. On the other hand, the Air Force Academy (AFA) mandates a degree from a recognized University with Physics and Mathematics at the 10+2 level or a Bachelor of Engineering.

Note: Graduates must present proof of graduation or provisional certificates on the date of the SSB Interview.

Written Examination:

For IMA, INA, and AFA, the examination comprises the following sections:

English (Code 11): 2 Hours, 100 Marks

General Knowledge (Code 12): 2 Hours, 100 Marks

Elementary Mathematics (Code 13): 2 Hours, 100 Marks

In contrast, the OTA examination includes:

English (Code 11): 2 Hours, 100 Marks

General Knowledge (Code 12): 2 Hours, 100 Marks

Subsequently, candidates will undergo an Interview for the Intelligence and Personality Test. Consequently, the maximum marks allotted for the written examination and interviews are as follows:

IMA, INA, AFA: 300 each

OTA: 200 each

Syllabus:

English (Code No. 01): This paper evaluates candidates’ understanding of English and their ability to use words effectively. Therefore, it assesses both grammar and vocabulary.

General Knowledge (Code No. 02): This section includes knowledge of current events, everyday observations, and scientific aspects. Additionally, it covers Indian History and Geography.

Elementary Mathematics (Code No. 03):

Arithmetic: This topic includes the Number System, Fundamental Operations, and the Unitary Method. Moreover, it covers Time and Distance, Time and Work, Percentages, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, and Ratio and Proportion.

Elementary Number Theory: This section involves the Division Algorithm, Prime and Composite Numbers, and Tests of Divisibility. Furthermore, it includes Multiples, Factors, Factorization Theorem, and Logarithms.

Algebra: Key areas include Basic Operations, Remainder Theorem, H.C.F., L.C.M., and Theory of Polynomials. Additionally, it involves solutions of quadratic equations, Simultaneous Linear Equations, and Set Language.

Trigonometry: This part features values of sine, cosine, and tangent, along with Simple Trigonometric Identities and the Use of Trigonometric Tables.

Geometry: Topics cover Lines and Angles, Plane Figures, and Theorems related to Triangles, Parallelograms, Circles, and Loci.

Mensuration: This includes Areas of various shapes, Surface Area, and Volume of Cuboids, Cones, Cylinders, and Spheres.
